	Chip Irvine is a multimedia artist who was born in Baltimore, Maryland. &#38;nbsp;He graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts, attended Maryland Institute College of Art, attained a B.S. in Fine Art from Towson University, and earned his M.F.A. in Studio Arts from Towson University in 2011.

Irvine is currently a full-time teaching artist at the Lab School of Washington. &#38;nbsp;He teaches photography, digital filmmaking, and studio arts.&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;Previously, he taught basic carpentry and sailing to inner-city children at Living Classrooms Foundation. He taught visual arts and earth and space sciences at Kennedy Krieger School. And he was a&#38;nbsp;Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography at Loyola University, also teaching Video Art at Towson University. 

In 2021, Irvine received a Lehman Foundation Travel Fellowship, from the Lab School of Washington, that funded the creation of a body of photographs that depicted tidepools and waterways of Iceland. In 2022, he received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to study the Maritime Dimension of the Underground Railroad in New Bedford, MA.

	︎Artist Statement︎

	
	My photographs reveal a life presence found in rocks, streams, urban streets, puddles, and other organic places. &#38;nbsp;Though often hidden beneath the surface, I attempt to reflect this by closely observing the surfaces of the natural world.

Some of my photographs are simply observation, while other pieces are created by altering small environments, for example, placing a leaf into a puddle or fabricating a site-specific still life.

I use a variety of image-making tools, including cameras with interchangeable lenses, DSLRs, and advanced digital point-and-shoot cameras.

I rely more on working with the time-of-day, location, and the camera’s point-of-view, over post processing and other computer-generated effects.
